Newsletter February 2012
Dear Client, Supply of Veterinary Medicines The problem of drug resistance in human medicine is increasing. This has an affect on the supply of Veterinary products since many of the drugs are the same. This has resulted in pressure for the on farm use of such drugs as Marbox and Cevaxel/Excenel to be more rigorously controlled or even withdrawn.
We think the present system is sufficiently effective but have to tighten up our dispensing procedures. It is already a requirement that only vets dispense POM’s. This will require our staff to check with a vet before handing it to you over the desk. The pre-ordering of drugs over the phone will speed things up.
Vaccinations 1. Lungworm - this is a disease that we must not forget about and although treatment nowadays is simple and effective the loss of milk in affected cows or body condition in stirks is substantial and costly.
Huskvac - is now available requiring two doses one month apart. The first dose being given six weeks before turnout.
2. BVD - annual vaccination recommended.
Bovidec - is again in stock and priced the same as last year.
3. Leptospira - annual vaccination recommended.
Spirovac - is in stock and priced cheaper than last year.
4. IBR - this disease has continued to give us milk drop in some herds but not every one.
In the last eighteen months we changed our vaccine regimes in the problem herds and have seen better results.
The price is the same as last year.
The new IBR vaccination regimes are detailed below:
